first_img Tweet Share A local hotelier has expressed confidence that a new target of enticing ninety thousand stay over visitors to Dominica by 2015 could become a reality once a collaborative effort is made. Chief executive of officer of the Discover Dominica Authority Collin Piper announced the new target at a consultation last week. The new target was set with a view to sustaining the industry. Judith Pestaina of the Garraway Hotel said while this goal is attainable more needs to be done to facilitate the process.“I think it’s possible but we all have to work together to achieve that…If everybody put their shoulders to the wheel and we have the issues that we constantly complain about [which] has been a problem in getting people into the island, we should see a turn around,” she said. She noted however that the entertainment industry, amenities and access into the island should be reviewed so as to make Dominica “a once stop seamless experience”. “I don’t think we should use that as an excuse, we should try to improve on the whole product and that implies getting into Dominica, the customer service, the kind of product that you deliver and how you treat people”.Although Mrs Pestaina is of the opinion that the construction of an international airport is crucial to the survival of the tourism industry, she noted that a lot can be derived from just proper planning. “We have other destinations that don’t have an international airport and when you look at a country as St Bart’s where high-end tourists go, billionaires go all the time, we have to look at what they are doing right and try to do it just as good,” she noted.Dominica recorded a 4.5 percent increase in stay over arrivals in 2012.Dominica Vibes News Share Sharecenter_img LocalNews New tourism target is attainable, says hotelier by: – April 4, 2013 Sharing is caring! 13 Views   one commentlast_img
