Hosting an event as big as the Palarong Pambansa is one of those dreams,” expressed Antique governor Rhodora Cadiao on social media before the announcement. “Today, we will face the final phase of the bidding process for the hosting of the 60th Palarong Pambansa next year.”Prior to the final bidding phase, on Oct. 5, Palaro officials visited Antique to inspect the province’s sports facilities and the billeting schools local sports officials had identified for the event.Cadiao had earlier expressed the Palaro as a “very good opportunity” to promote Antique as it would help not only in sports development but in tourism as well.“So many people out there still don’t know where Antique is,” Cadiao lamented. “Worse, there are people who haven’t even heard of our province. The Palaro, being a national sports competition, will put Antique in the news.”Iloilo and Negros Occidental were among the cities Antique was competing with for the hosting gig, but Gov. Art Defensor and Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. withdrew their bids earlier in the year. The other candidates to host the 60th Palarong Pambansa were Tacloban City in Leyte and Cebu City.Cadiao shared that among those who backed their bid were Antiqueña Sen. Loren Legarda and Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara.Antique is also set to host the 2017 West Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet from Feb. 1 to 5 next year.“It is now our time! Kruhaaay Palarong Pambansa 2017!” concluded Cadiao in her post./PN [/av_textblock][/av_one_full]last_img
