William James College is committed to educationalexcellence in applied psychology and to developing the nextgeneration of culturally sensitive professionals to increase accessto behavioral healthcare for all people.Position SummaryReporting to the President, the Director of Development isresponsible for developing and managing a portfolio of individualdonor and prospective donor relationships and for developing,implementing, and overseeing overall Advancement program and growthstrategies. The Director’s focus is to achieve the College’s goalfor philanthropic support, to expand the College’s donor base,particularly in Individual Giving, and to deepen engagement,enhance stewardship and solicitation activities with allconstituents.Managing three Advancement team direct reports, the Directorwill take the lead to manage and build an integrated fundraisingprogram including major gifts, annual giving, alumni relations,special events and donor relations, as well as corporate,foundation and government support. The Director will also takesteps to build the College’s Planned Giving function.The Director of Development will serve as senior fundraiser forinstitution-wide targeted initiatives and will work closely withthe senior leaders, trustees, faculty, and administrators todevelop key fundraising strategies and activities. The Directorwill staff the Board Advancement Committee and serve as liaison tothe College’s Board of Trustees.Essential duties and responsibilities:Build and manage portfolio of donor relationships, includingknown major donors to the College: qualify capacity, engage,solicit, and steward both annual giving and multi-year majorgiving;Identify new prospective donors to build donor portfolio to atarget total of 100-150; relationships: research, qualify potentialdonors with capacity to contribute $10,000 or moreManage Advancement Program staff, including three full-timeemployees working in annual giving and alumni relations, corporateand foundation grants-writing, events and special projects;Develop and maintain comprehensive understanding of Collegepriorities to articulate the case(s) for supporting Collegepriorities and effectively match donor interest with institutionalfunding need(s);Work with Advancement Team, CFO, President and TrusteeAdvancement Committee to develop annual and multi-year AdvancementPlan(s), including strategies to achieve philanthropic goals;Work with team to develop and oversee comprehensive plan(s) forevents as part of overall Advancement plan including clarity ofpurpose, goals, target constituency segment and follow-up plan foreach event, whether to engage, steward, inform or buildawareness;Develop action plans and briefing materials to support thepresident, trustees, and other institutional leaders in meetingswith donors or potential donors;Work closely with Marketing and Communications to develop andimplement strategic, integrated Advancement Communications plan,messaging, and collateral;Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree required7+ years of successful development experience including majorgifts, preferably in higher educationTrack record of successful solicitation and securing individualmajor giftsAbility to work collaboratively with colleagues in a teamenvironmentAbility and drive to implement best practices for fundraising,donor communications, events, stewardship, and databasemanagementDiscretion, ability to interact with high-level donors andmaintain a high-level of confidentialityAbility to travel and work varied hours, including nightsand/or weekendsExcellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral, andwritten communication skillsSelf-motivated and demonstrates initiative, patience, andresourcefulness in adapting to change and responding to opportunityin an entrepreneurial environmentAdvanced degree, management experience and knowledge of plannedgiving are a pluslast_img
